Introduction:

Good Time by Alan Jackson, released in 2008, is a prime example of a country music artist returning to their roots. The song is the title track and second single from Jackson’s fifteenth studio album, simply titled Good Time. This album marked a shift back to the traditional country sound that Jackson was known for earlier in his career, after several albums that incorporated more pop and rock influences.

Good Time was produced by Keith Stegall, a long-time collaborator of Jackson’s who has produced many of his most successful albums. Stegall is known for his work with other country artists as well, including Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band.

The release of Good Time as a single was a strategic move for Jackson. The album’s lead single, Small Town Southern Man, had already reached number one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Good Time continued this success, reaching number one itself a few months later. This marked Jackson’s twenty-fourth number one hit on the country charts, solidifying his place as one of the most successful country artists of all time.

Good Time‘s upbeat tempo and relatable lyrics resonated with audiences. The song describes the feeling of wanting to unwind and have fun after a long work week. It’s a sentiment many people can identify with, and the song quickly became a popular choice for country radio stations and playlists. The success of Good Time helped the Good Time album achieve platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), signifying sales of over one million units.

Even though it wasn’t released as the lead single, Good Time is considered one of the defining songs of the album. It perfectly encapsulates the return to traditional country that Jackson was aiming for, and its catchy melody and themes continue to be enjoyed by fans today.
