About The Song

“I’ll Never Find Another You” features Judith Durham on lead vocals, Athol Guy on double bass and vocals, Keith Potger on 12-string guitar and banjo, and Bruce Woodley on six-string guitar and mandolin. Recorded in 1964, the track was both written and produced by Tom Springfield, originally known as Dion O’Brien and the brother of pop icon Dusty Springfield, born Mary O’Brien. This single marked a historic achievement for The Seekers, as they became the first Australian band to surpass one million copies in sales for a single, ultimately reaching 1.75 million sales worldwide. Additionally, they secured the distinction of being the first Australian band with a Top 5 hit in Australia, the UK, and the USA simultaneously.

The Seekers’ ascent to fame was significantly influenced by their collaboration with the London promoters, The Grade Organisation. Upon their arrival in London in 1964, strategic gigs arranged by staff agent Eddie Jarrett led to a recording deal with World Records, the mail-order branch of EMI Records. This, coupled with regular appearances on British television, steered them away from their original plan to perform on Sitmar cruise ships.

Eddie Jarrett, recognizing the musical potential within The Seekers, introduced them to Tom Springfield. The fortuitous partnership emerged from Jarrett’s prior experience fostering musical talent with The Springfields, a trio from a West London Irish-Catholic family. The Springfields, consisting of Tom and Dusty, disbanded when Dusty embarked on her solo career. The collaboration between Jarrett, Springfield, and The Seekers proved serendipitous, with Springfield going on to write and produce the majority of The Seekers’ hits throughout the decade.

The convergence of management, production, and creativity set the stage for The Seekers’ pivotal moment—their next significant breakthrough materialized in the form of a recording contract with EMI’s Columbia Label, the world’s largest recording company at that time. In November 1964, “I’ll Never Find Another You” achieved chart-topping success, securing the number 1 position on charts in both Australia and the UK. Simultaneously, it claimed the impressive fourth position on the charts in the USA.

Lyrics

There’s a new world somewhere
They call the promised land
And I’ll be there someday
If you will hold my hand
I still need you there beside me
No matter what I do
For I know I’ll never find another you

There is always someone
For each of us, they say
And you’ll be my someone
Forever and a day
I could search the whole world over
Until my life is through
But I know I’ll never find another you

It’s a long, long journey
So stay by my side
When I walk through the storm
You’ll be my guide, be my guide
If they gave me a fortune
My pleasure would be small
I could lose it all tomorrow
And never mind at all
But if I should lose your love, dear
I don’t know what I’d do
For I know I’ll never find another you

But if I should lose your love, dear
I don’t know what I’d do
For I know I’ll never find another you
Another you
Another you
