At the age of 17, Mylon Le Fevre, a young Army soldier stationed at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, penned his debut song, “Without Him,” in just 20 minutes. One weekend, he hitchhiked over 600 miles to join his family group, the LeFevres, who were performing at a gospel convention in Memphis. Unaware of the presence of Elvis Presley in the audience, Mylon performed the song onstage. Impressed, Elvis sought out the budding songwriter and subsequently recorded the track for his album, How Great Thou Art. In the following year, more than a hundred artists covered the song, propelling Le Fevre into wealth and fame while he was still a teenager.

Mylon’s journey continued into the realm of rock and roll, marked by the creation of “We Believe,” regarded by some as the inaugural “Jesus Rock” album. Along the way, he confronted and overcame drug addiction, collaborating with renowned artists like Eric Clapton, Elton John, Billy Joel, Little Richard, Steve Winwood, Mick Fleetwood, and The Who. In recognition of his contributions, Le Fevre was honored with induction into the Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 2005 and, two years later, into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame.

Lyrics

Without Him I could do nothing
Without Him I’d surely fail
Without Him I would be drifting
Like a ship without a sail

Without Him I would be dying
Without Him I’d be enslaved
Without Him life would be worthless
But with Jesus thank God I’m saved

Oh Jesus, oh Jesus
Do you know Him today
Please don’t turn Him away
Oh Jesus, my Jesus
Without Him how lost I would be
Without Him how lost I would be
